We need to talk about... Power Platform Release Wave 2 for 2024... Copilot Studio

Today, I am going over the features and functionality that will be released for Copilot Studio between October 2024 and March 2025.

The PDF file also includes information about Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Pages, Power Virtual Agents, Microsoft Dataverse, Microsoft Power Platform governance and administration, and data integration.

A separate release plan and a downloadable PDF summarise the Microsoft Power Platform features coming in the 2024 release wave 2.

This set of updates covers the key areas of focus for Copilot Studio. These areas are Copilot and AI innovation, the overall capabilities within Copilot Studio, some new Core Authoring updates and an entire set of updates focused on Customer Service and IVR!

Business Rules Manager for Omnichannel Bots

An early announcement of the Business Rules Manager for OmniChannel Bots means the user experience is going to be simplified. Administrators can now use Power Apps and Dataverse tables to set up dynamic values to store things like locations, addresses, transfer numbers, broadcast messages, or lines of business.

A few simple steps are required for this feature to work

  1. Set up your Dataverse table in Power Apps.

  2. Build a Power Apps application to manage your data.

  3. Link it all together by creating an Action in Copilot Studio to connect your table to your Copilot.

Once the above is completed admins can instantly add, update, or delete data as needed. Any changes go live seamlessly, with no delays or disruptions for your users.

IVR Experiences with Generative AI

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems are not included in Copilot Studio and these new features are designed to make IVR interactions smoother, smarter, and more human-like for users.

In this release wave, Microsoft is introducing generative AI capabilities that enable IVR systems to craft dynamic, context-aware responses. This means customers can speak naturally, and the system will understand and respond intelligently, eliminating the need for repetitive or overly structured interactions.

Another exciting improvement is the optimised voice output. The IVR now delivers responses in a tone and style that feels more conversational and less robotic. This creates a more engaging and pleasant experience for customers, which can make a big difference in overall satisfaction.

Copilot Agents for Microsoft 365 Business Chat and Teams

This new feature allows organisations to bring their internal knowledge, workflows, and tools directly into the chat experience. Whether it’s helping employees quickly find information, automating repetitive tasks, or offering intelligent suggestions during meetings, these Copilot agents can adapt to fit the specific workflows and goals of your organisation.

Admis can program their Copilot agents to handle industry-specific terminology or integrate directly with key systems and databases within their existing landscape meaning the responses are more personalised to the user.

By integrating these existing systems into Microsoft 365 Business Chat and Teams, administrators can ensure their employees have the tools they need to fix the customer problem.

Generative Actions

Generative actions are now generally available in Microsoft Copilot Studio as a key set of updates in this release wave. This means admins can now use the power of AI to automatically generate responses and actions based on context, making your apps and workflows smarter than ever before.

Generative actions use the latest AI technology to understand the flow of conversations, tasks, and data, allowing us to automate complex tasks. A user might interact with our website or bot and these generative actions can instantly create personalised, context-driven responses, whether that’s answering a question, providing recommendations, or even generating new content.

Our bot can then respond in real-time to changes in user input or data, making it more responsive and flexible. Microsoft has made it easy to integrate these generative actions into your existing projects without needing deep technical knowledge.

Hope you all enjoyed this post on the Copilot Studio Release Wave 2 for 2024 updates I will continue this series with some additional content specifically related to the remainder of the Power Platform in the coming weeks. Take Care, and Speak Soon!
